Location: McCulloch County, Texas (near Mercury, closest locality to the geometric center of Texas)
Operators: Jim and Stephen West (father-son team). Jim is a retired Marine and family patriarch. Stephen has a college degree in agriculture. Both enjoy pushing the boundaries of traditional farming practices.
Regenerative Practices
Successfully moved from conventional cattle grazing to multi-species regenerative ranching
Make and use their own worm tea
Incorporate a variety of livestock to create a healthy ecosystem
Cattle are concentrated on a small area for a short time
Livestock are moved often, most times daily
Partnership with NRCS
Through EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program), they have installed fencing, developed water systems, cleared additional brush, seeded grass, and built infrastructure that allows their operation to run smoothly.
