Wild Type Ranch, Northern Edition Part 1: Starting with Why

Wild Type Ranch announces our move from Texas to Wisconsin after 18 months of planning. This major transition represents an evolution in our mission to promote regenerative agriculture.

Key Reasons for the Move

Regenerative Agriculture Mission: My dream is to see 80% of the food consumed in the US be produced using regenerative practices. I believe the best way to promote the regenerative food system is to directly help new farmers get started. The Wisconsin farm will be operated by next-generation farmers, in addition to myself.

Core Values: The motto of Wild Type Ranch's new incarnation is 'Healthy soils, nutritious food, balanced living and engaged community', while the founding principle 'Respect for all life' still resonates in all we do.

Long-term Vision: We are putting the farm into a permanent ag easement and structuring the business to become a legacy farm, designed to be operating 100 years from now.

For me personally, this means moving close to my wonderful family of origin, working with two next-generation members of the family, and a values-aligned business partner.

Background

Ralph and I have produced grass-fed beef in Central Texas since 2005. This blog documents our journey from our original Texas operation to our new Wisconsin location near Madison.
